Shinola opens its doors: The Shinola Hotel has now officially opened its doors in downtown Detroit. Two local companies with a love for the city, Shinola and Bedrock, brought in world-class partners for the 129 room hotel, which is operated by Mac&Lo and features F&B programming from award-winning Chef Andrew Carmellini of NoHo Hospitality Group. The team tapped Gachot Studios for the design and Kraemer Design Group as the architect of record.

Hilton and M&C collab: The Biltmore, Mayfair is set to open in London as LXR Hotels & Resorts first UK property, following an agreement between Hilton and Millennium & Copthorne Hotels. The luxury hotel will open for business in spring, marking the new brand’s European debut. The hotel, which will be known as The Biltmore, Mayfair – LXR Hotels & Resorts, has undergone a multi-million-pound redevelopment following its closure in early July 2018. Designed by Goddard Littlefair, the hotel will offer 257 guest rooms as well as 51 suites.

The imposter Wynn: Wynn Resorts has filed a five-count trademark infringement and unfair competition lawsuit against Resorts World Las Vegas LLC. The cause of the suit is the Resorts World property currently under construction on the Las Vegas Strip. The US$4 billion, 3,000-room resort is expected to open in late 2020. Local news reports say that the suit alleges that this property’s design is too similar to the nearby Wynn Las Vegas and Encore buildings.

New head of Malaysia for Oyo: Oyo Hotels Malaysia (Oyo established its presence in Malaysia just over a year ago) has named a new country head, Tan Ming Luk. His resume includes a wealth of experience in management consulting as well as launching and managing of digital businesses. As the new leader at helm, Tan aims to drive OYO’s business in Malaysia in 2019.

Jeanne Augier dead: The millionaire owner of a luxury French Riviera hotel appreciated by celebrities and royalty, has died at 95. The Hotel Negresco in Nice announced Wednesday that Augier died Monday. It said she took over the hotel in 1957 and worked to “extend its influence throughout France and the world.” Flags hanging above the hotel flew at half-staff Wednesday in a mourning period declared by the hotel.
