Briefs: Subpoena for Trump D.C. records issued

Finances uncovered: The attorneys general of the District of Columbia and Maryland said they are moving forward with subpoenas for records in their case accusing U.S. President Donald Trump of profiting off the presidency. A U.S. district court judge approved the legal discovery schedule in an order Monday. Such information would likely provide the first clear picture of the finances of Trump’s Washington, D.C., hotel.

The Singapore company that just bought 38 Hyatts:  ARA Asset Management has entered the U.S. market with the acquisition of 38 hotels under the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands. IPE Real Assets writes that the portfolio was sold for “north of US$700 million” by Lone Star, on behalf of its Lone Star Real Estate Fund III.

Hyatt completes Two Roads acquisition: Hyatt Hotels Corporation has completed the previously announced acquisition of lifestyle hotel management company Two Roads Hospitality. Hyatt has expanded its brand presence into 23 new markets with management and license agreements for 74 open and operating hotels across North America and Asia, and a pipeline of signed management agreements. As part of the acquisition, Hyatt will also establish a new dedicated lifestyle division to combine the operations of Two Roads’ and Hyatt’s lifestyle brands.

Hilton lawsuit: A woman in Chicago is suing Hilton Worldwide for US$100 million after she said an employee at an Albany, New York, hotel filmed her naked in the shower, posted the video online and subsequently tried to blackmail her. The woman, who is not named in the suit, alleges that the video was secretly recorded inside her room at the Hampton Inn and Suites in July 2015.

San Fran strike close to ending? A union representing striking Marriott hotel workers in San Francisco announced that it had reached a “tentative agreement” with management after nearly two months of protest. Unite Here Local 2 claimed via social media that their new deal “sets a new and transformative standard for SF’s hotel industry” and said that members will vote on ratification of a new contract later Monday.

Graduate moves in Michigan: Adventurous Journeys (AJ) Capital Partners will open a Graduate Hotels in East Lansing, Michigan. The 10-story, 194-room ground-up hotel development is adjacent to Michigan State University. Once complete in fall 2020, the hotel will open as Graduate East Lansing. 

Blu in Anaheim: Radisson Blu brings its fourth U.S. location to Anaheim, California. BPM Real Estate Group and Radisson Hotel Group have already broken ground on what will be the 4-star, luxury resort, with plans to open in mid-2020. 

New headquarters for Timber: Florida-based Timbers Resorts, an independent developer and operator, is opening its new corporate headquarters in Winter Park, Florida. The company’s move is in direct response to its growing portfolio of properties on the east coast with an interest in expanding further into Florida, the Caribbean and Europe. 

New management for Mezzatorre: The Mezzatorre Hotel & Spa, a 5-star property on Ischia island in Italy has changed management, choosing Pellicano Hotels Group, which already owns and manages Hotel Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole and La Posta Vecchia Hotel in Palo Laziale. Following an agreement with the Mezzatorre’s owners, Pellicano will manage the hotel starting in February. 

Harbor Hotel Provincetown sells: A partnership between Alta Properties, Finard Properties, and Saltaire Properties recently announced the sale of the Harbor Hotel Provincetown in Massachusetts. The boutique hotel has 129 rooms and is located on a 4.5-acre waterfront site in Provincetown, Massachusetts. A real estate fund managed by an affiliate of Linchris Hotel Corp. acquired the property for an undisclosed amount.

Cambria Jacksonville: Choice Hotels International signed an agreement with Jacksonville, Florida-based Ash Properties to develop a five-story, 132-room Cambria Hotel in the city. The hotel is slated to open in 2020.
