Briefs: Ascott stake in operator | Big Sky Montage

Ascott invests in Tauzia: Singapore-based Capitaland’s serviced residence unit, The Ascott Limited, took a 70% stake in Green Oak Hotel Management, the holding company for Tauzia Hotel Management, an Indonesia-based hotel operator. The stake, worth US$26 million, is Ascott’s first major move into the lodging segment. Tauzia has nearly 20,000 units spanning 122 hotels in Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, half of which are under development.

 


Turnberry turns to JW: Turnberry Isle Miami, formerly part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, will reopen as part of the JW Marriott portfolio later this year. The JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa will have a 325-room, 16-story tower.

 


Montage in Montana: Montage International and Boston-based CrossHarbor Capital Partners broke ground on a US$400 million hotel in Montana’s Big Sky area. The 150-room hotel will have ski access and a golf course. It’s scheduled to open in 2021. Read Bloomberg’s story.

 


Blackstone in San Antonio: BREIT JWM San Antonio LP, a partnership of Blackstone executives, purchased the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa. No sale price was given on the 1,002-room resort and a next-door golf course. The previous owner was affiliated with Denver-based Miller Global Properties. The resort cost more than $600 million to build, according to Express News.

 


Docs sought in Trump case: Attorneys general in Washington, D.C., and Maryland have asked President Donald Trump for correspondence with government officials regarding his D.C. hotel. It’s part of a civil suit alleging the president is benefiting from foreign governments without the permission of Congress. Read more in the Independent.

 


Swan and Dolphin expansion: Walt Disney World is expanding its Swan and Dolphin Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The new tower, scheduled for completion in 2020, will add meeting space, 349 rooms, a restaurant and outdoor space. Once complete, the resort will have a total of 2,600 rooms and 350,000 square feet of meeting space.  

 


Sydney Park Regis sold: The iProsperity Group sold Sydney’s Park Regis Hotel for A$54.2 million (US$33.3million) to hotel developer and operator Johnson Yeh. It had purchased the 122-room hotel in 2016 for A$44 million (US$27.1 million) from Staywell Hospitality Group.

 


Travelodge in Phuket: Travelodge will open its first Phuket, Thailand, property in 2020. Travelodge Phuket Town will have 159 rooms and an all-day dining restaurant. It’s the third of the brand in Thailand.
