Briefs: TravelClick sells for US$1.52B | Indian Hotels signs Vivanta Heathrow

Amadeus acquires TravelClick: Travel tech company Amadeus has acquired TravelClick from private equity investment firm Thoma Bravo for US$1.52 billion. As part of the acquisition, approximately 1,100 TravelClick employees are expected to join Amadeus. The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of the calendar year 2018, following regulatory approvals and the transaction will be debt-financed and immediately earnings accretive.

Vivanta Heathrow: India’s largest hospitality company, Indian Hotels, has signed a Vivanta hotel at Heathrow Airport in London in partnership with Hayre Group Limited. The new hotel is a Greenfield project slated to open in 2021 and will have approximately 108 rooms.

 


Airbnb takes its cut in Miami: An ongoing study authored by MIT and Harvard researchers has confirmed what many analysts have been saying for a while now: Airbnb is taking a sliver out of hotel revenues, and travelers are reaping the rewards of lower costs, especially during peaks like New Year’s Eve when thousands head to Miami. While previous studies have explored Airbnb’s impact on the hotel industry, this is the first independent academic study based on Airbnb’s own data.

ADR down in Dubai: Average daily rates charged by Dubai hotels are set to slip to their lowest mark in nearly 14 years in July, according to analysts STR. Although STR’s preliminary July data for Dubai indicated performance consistent with strong growth in both supply and demand, ADR levels are poised to fall to their lowest since August 2004. Based on daily data from July, Dubai’s hospitality market reported a 6.3% rise in supply and a 7.2% increase in demand.
