RevPAR milestone. June 2018 was the U.S. hotel industry’s 100th consecutive month of growth in RevPAR, according to data from STR. The 100-month streak is still one year shy of the longest overall expansion cycle in industry history, which lasted 112 months from December 1991 through March 2001. However, since RevPAR decreased 0.4% in August 1998, the industry’s current run of 100 straight months of positive RevPAR comparisons is the longest. The country’s last month with a decrease in the key hotel industry performance metric came in February 2010 (RevPAR: -3.8%).

NYC council shamed by Airbnb. Airbnb’s global head of policy predicted the company would not get a “single vote” to block a bill to crack down on its business in the city, blasting City Council members as “bellhops” for the hotel industry, according to a New York Daily News report. The Council is set to vote today on a bill requiring Airbnb to hand over the names and addresses of all its hosts to an enforcement office. It’s illegal in New York to rent an entire apartment for less than 30 days, so sending hosts’ information to the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement would potentially expose them to fines.
