Briefs: Asia pipeline data | Suit says Trump illegally promoted hotels

China, A-P pipeline. Lodging Econometrics reports the total pipeline in China has 2,481 projects/546,424 rooms, up 2% year-over-year.? ?There are 1,725 projects/368,927 rooms under construction, up less than 1% by projects YOY.

Cities in China with the largest pipelines are Shanghai with 129 projects/25,750 rooms; Guangzhou with 106 projects/25,481 rooms; Chengdu with 89 projects/19,723 rooms; Hangzhou with 77 projects/17,255 rooms; Suzhou with 75 projects/14,713 rooms; and Beijing with 68 projects/11,551 rooms.

Outside of China in Asia Pacific, Marriott International has 204 projects/48,003 rooms; AccorHotels has 215 projects/45,086 rooms; IHG has 122 projects/28,186 rooms; Hilton has 82 projects/17,750;  and Best Western has 34 projects/6,146 rooms.

 

 


More Trump allegations. The New York attorney general’s office announced Thursday that it is alleging illegal conduct by the Donald J. Trump Foundation in a lawsuit that also names as defendants the president and his three oldest children. The suit alleges the foundation’s charitable assets were used to pay off legal obligations, promote his hotels and other business interests, and buy personal items, according to a press release. In a series of tweets, President Trump blasted the lawsuit as a “ridiculous case” brought by “sleazy New York Democrats.”

MGM offering. MGM Resorts International on Friday proposed a public offering of US$1 billion in aggregate principal amount of 5.750% senior notes due 2025. The company intends to use the net proceeds for “general corporate purposes” which could include refinancing existing debt, funding the cost of acquisitions, paying dividends on common stock or repurchasing common stock.
