Briefs: Wyndham’s new sleep plan | Canada pipeline

Canada pipeline. The construction pipeline in Canada currently has 237 projects/29,881 rooms, up 11% by projects year-over-year, according to Lodging Econometrics. There are 90 projects/11,811 rooms under construction, up 20% by projects. Projects scheduled to start construction in the next 12 months are at 93 projects/10,658 rooms, up 11%. The top hotel companies in Canada’s pipeline by projects are: Marriott with 54 projects/7,718 rooms; IHG with 44 projects/4,528 rooms; and Hilton with 38 projects/4,319 rooms.

 


Sleep right. Wyndham Hotels and Resorts is launching a program promising a perfect night’s sleep that it says will be in place at every hotel across its U.S. portfolio by 2019. It includes a new room design prototype that incorporates wellness technologies to help improve indoor air quality, sleep patterns and physical comfort, as well as reduce exposure to germs and allergens.

It happens everywhere. Russia’s consumer protection agency, Rospotrebnadzor, said 539 hotels have been fined about 4.4 million rubles (US$76,000) for inflating their prices in Russian cities that are hosting 2018 FIFA World Cup matches starting in June. The fines were imposed after nearly 11,400 hotels were inspected in the cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, and Samara.
