In case you missed it: Mama Shelter takes Belgrade

Gimme (this) shelter: Mama Shelter’s new Belgrade location draws on the area’s Ottoman history with funky takes on kilim patterns and an “Eastern Bloc aesthetic.” Interiors are by Jalil Amor, who also worked on Mama Shelter’s Rio de Janeiro location. Mama Shelter Belgrade, with 125 rooms opens March 8. Works for us. —Barbara Bohn

Oscar de la Renta’s resort gets a boost: Early last year, in consultation with the late fashion maestro’s wife Annette, the owners of Tortuga Bay, de la Renta’s Punta Cana resort set about restoring the property to peak comfort, enlisting AD100 decorator Markham Roberts to revamp the villas and common spaces. The results, according to Architecture + Design, include a lot of wicker and warmth. —Chloe Riley

Pods in space: Budget Suites of America billionaire Robert Bigelow has long had an aerospace company, but he’s getting serious about launching a space station into orbit – in 2021, to be exact, and plans include adding a six-person pod-type “hotel,” for a few lucky guests willing to fork over either seven or eight figures. Marketing is a challenge, he admits: “There’s a real lack of quality data that are telling us, ‘here’s what you really have globally in terms of a market.’” Right. —B.B.

Fueled by plants: It’s not quite the “vegan hotel” that various headlines are touting, but it is a solid step forward for herbivores. Vegan chef Mathew Kenney’s Alibi food concept will open at Sydney’s Ovolo Woolloomooloo next month, aiming to capture Australia’s growing interest in the plant-based diet and lifestyle. —B.B.

The future rock stars of now: Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando is having some fun with the kiddies. (And adults who embrace their kiddie side). The property’s newly redesigned Future Rock Star Suites give the kids their very own stage on which to dutifully tap into their inner Joan Jett. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the two-room suites have a stage with liquid flooring and lights, a starlight canopy over the beds and new Hard Rock memorabilia from today’s superstars. Rock out kids. —C.R.
