People on the move: Week of January 8, 2018

From newly named executive chefs to vice presidents, strategists and general managers, here are the people making moves this week.

Renovated and reopened after Hurricane Irma, Naples Grande Beach Resort in Naples, Florida hired Paul Burke as the property’s general manager and area vice president. Burke joins the Northwood Hospitality team after serving as president and COO at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas.

Hotel Nia, a luxury Silicon Valley hotel opening this spring, announced Chaya Donne as director of sales and marketing, and Roque Medina as food and beverage director. Prior to joining Hotel Nia, Donne served as director of sales and events at Stanford Park Hotel in Menlo Park, California. Medina was recently food and beverage director at Solage Calistoga and The Resort at Marina Village, as well as general manager of Vida at Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

Aparium Hotel Group named Brian Fahey as general manager of the Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Fahey hails from MADE Hotel New York in New York City.

Allison Inn & Spa, an 85-room resort in Oregon wine country’s Willamette Valley welcomed Kenny Giambalvo as executive chef. Giambalvo, who will take the helm at the hotel’s signature restaurant JORY, most recently spent 11 years at Bluehour restaurant in Portland, Oregon, which he co-owned and operated.

Sébastien Giannini is the executive chef for the restaurant at the St. Regis Washington D.C., which will re-launch its fine-dining venue under a new concept and name in 2018. Prior to accepting this position, Giannini was executive chef and culinary director at the W Montreal in Canada. 

InterContinental Hotels Group promoted Leanne Harwood to managing director, Australia and Japan, replacing Karin Sheppard who is moving to London to take on the role of IHG’s managing director, Europe. Prior to her appointment, Harwood was vice president for IHG’s operations in South East Asia and Korea.

The Omni Charlotte Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina appointed Douglas Hustad as general manager, Jordan Siverson as director of food and beverage, and Matthew Cooper as executive chef. The property is undergoing a US$26 million transformation into a contemporary lifestyle destination.

Kylene Geyer is the new senior marketing manager at AHC+Hospitality, while Ashley Savransky joined as marketing coordinator. Geyer, who has been with the company for six years, will undertake strategy development, marketing campaign ideation and more. Savransky will support marketing initiatives and ancillary programs for the hotels.

Foxwoods Resort Casino named Jesse Luis as vice president of development at the resort casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Luis was most recently the vice president of North America development for Dolce Hotels and Resorts, a position he held from 2012 to 2014.

J.B. McKibbon IV joined McKibbon Hospitality as asset manager for the McKibbon Family Investment Fund. A fourth-generation family member at McKibbon Hospitality, McKibbon most recently was senior asset manager for Apple Hospitality REIT.

Brent McNally is now general manager at the 235-room The Gates Hotel South Beach – a DoubleTree by Hilton, located in Miami Beach, Florida. Bringing more than 12 years of experience in opening and repositioning hotels, McNally previously held the role of general manager for Monterey Tides Hotel in Monterey, California.

LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort in Naples, Florida appointed Linda Menshon as director of sales and marketing. Linda brings with her more than 20 years experience, recently serving as the director of sales and marketing at Naples Bay Resort where she rebranded the property as an independent hotel.

Jens Moesker is now the regional vice president for the Pacific Northwest and general manager of Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver, British Columbia. Formerly, he was area manager and general manager of the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto. The company also announced Cari Bower as the new director of leisure sales at Fairmont Vancouver Airport.

Hayato Nogaki joined The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California as director of food and beverage, overseeing all restaurant, in-room dining and banquet operations for the 504-acre costal property. Nogaki joined Pelican Hill from Salamander Hotels & Resorts where he was resort manager for Henderson Beach Resort in Destin, Florida.

W Hotels appointed Gregory Polino as general manager of W Miami, a 146-room luxury lifestyle hotel in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood. Prior to this role, Polino was hotel manager at sister property W South Beach, playing a key role in hotel operations and development of the W Hotels brand.

Four Seasons Resort Nevis in the West Indies welcomed Philip Salud as resort manager. A 15-year veteran of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Salud came from the brand’s Jimbaran Bay resort in Bali.

Isabel Steinhauer is now director of food and beverage at Hotel Okura Amsterdam in the Netherlands, responsible for four Michelin-awarded hotel restaurants. She also is a member of the hotel’s management team. Before coming to Amsterdam, Steinhauer gained experience as director of food and beverage in various international hotels, including Jumeirah in Dubai and Spain and The Ritz-Carlton in Berlin, Germany.

Louis T Collection appointed Mikael Svensson as senior vice president. The Swedish native spent the last 25 years in hospitality in locations across Asia and most recently served as general manager of the Viceroy Palm Jumeirah Dubai.

The St. Regis San Francisco appointed Jacqueline Volkart as general manager. Prior to this role, Volkart was general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan, Puerto Rico where she won awards for her leadership. 

Enchantment Group, an experiential hospitality management firm, appointed Kirk Wilkinson as corporate director of training and leadership development. Wilkinson brings seven years’ experience in hospitality leadership development for brands such as Two Roads Hospitality, InterContinental Hotels Group and Wyndham.
