The One Shot: Not-so-hidden details at Hotel Eden, Rome

Since Rome’s Hotel Eden re-opened in April, the average rate has more than doubled.  “It is all about the details,” General Manager Luca Virgilio explained.

The hotel, which dates back to 1889, had been closed for 17 months to allow designers Bruno Moinard, who worked on the public areas and all 98 guestrooms and suites, and, Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, who did F&B and spa, to work their magic.

Walk-in closets at the Hotel Eden are shown off with fabric details.

One of the many noteworthy features is that walk-in closets have no doors. Interiors of the various hanging areas are, as shown, lined in padded cotton fabric featuring a pastoral design. Strip lighting is set above the hanging rails, from which hang padded satin hangers and beige wood hangers with non-slip ends. The statutory legal notice showing room rates also hangs from one of the rails (stylishly, the rate card is framed in fabric). The hotel’s paper shopping bag is mustard-colored, as is the furled umbrella.

“Little things add up,” added Virgilio – who is making the hotel’s owner, The Dorchester Collection, very happy.
