The Hot Shot: Dutch detail at Kimpton De Witt

Stick out those pinkies.

When Kimpton, now part of IHG, opened its first European property, the Kimpton De Witt Hotel Amsterdam, it had to make an impact. Angela Brav, CEO Europe for IHG, knew it was important to get this launch property, a conversion of the former Crowne Plaza Amsterdam City Centre, absolutely right.

“It was essential to leverage the Kimpton brand by giving attention to detail showcasing the amazing city of Amsterdam,” she said.

This included plenty of typically Dutch touchpoints. Immediately after the hotel opened in May, comments on TripAdvisor noticed such elements as the real-china spoons and matching cups and saucers, all by Pip Studio, Amsterdam, accompanying the espresso machines in all 274 rooms and suites. Coffee essentials are in matching tins, deliberately distressed.
