The Hot: Westin Los Cabos reopens as timeshare

No more hotel component for the mod-looking redbrick Westin Los Cabos – the property has just reopened and is now committed to solely vacation ownership.

According to Oregon-based architects GBJ who worked on the revamp, the impetus for the project came after Hurricane Odile damaged the property’s exterior in 2014. After that initial restoration was completed, a decision was made to shift the hotel into a timeshare, reducing its 243 guest rooms and suites into 147 villas.

Originally designed by architect Javier Sordo Madaleno, the Mexican resort is now composed of studios and two-bedroom villas. The two-bedroom premium villas and two expansive luxury suites have private balcony Jacuzzis. With the new focus on extended stay, the villas are equipped with full modern kitchens, balconies, and washers and dryers.

The spa and fitness area has also been updated. Inspired by the artwork from the Otomí people of Central Mexico, Spa Otomí has a bathing suite, seven treatment rooms and relaxation lounge. The resort also offers a running concierge, who organizes group runs. Additional amenities include infinity-edge pools, tennis courts and beach volleyball.
