News in brief: Wyndham, Colliers, Viceroy

Wyndham: Wyndham Hotel Group unveiled plans to manage the 242-key Wyndham Grand Ambergris Caye, the first resort in Belize to fly the Wyndham Grand flag.

 


Colliers: Colliers International has been instructed by the U City Public Company Limited (Thailand) to value 22 of the hotels across Europe, which are operated by Vienna International Hotelmanagement AG and Warimpex Finanz- und Beteiligungs AG. The total portfolio comprises 22 hotels, 14 of which are located in Germany, two in the Czech Republic, five in Poland and one in Romania. The hotels are predominantly 4-stars that recently were or will be refurbished shortly.

 


Viceroy Hotel Group:  Viceroy Hotel Group will segment its portfolio into three tiers, including the  Viceroy Icon Collection, Viceroy Lifestyle Series and Urban Retreat Collection.

 


Marriott Aloft: Marriott International will launch its Aloft brand in the capital city of Mauritius with the signing of Aloft Mauritius Port Louis. Set to open in early 2019, the hotel will be the brand’s first adaptive reuse project in Africa.

 


Hotel Nia: Ensemble Real Estate Investments and AECOM Capital have announced the name of a new 250-room hotel in Menlo Park, California: the Hotel Nia. The new-build hotel and restaurant is a key component of Silicon Valley’s landmark Menlo Gateway project.

 


Universal Studios: Universal Studios plans to put a 4,000-hotel in central Florida. Industry insiders said the hotel, which would occupy the former Wet ‘n Wild water park site, would potentially be similar to Walt Disney World’s All-Star Resort properties, and that requests for proposals were being gathered.

Alexa vs. Siri: Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri are both in the running to be the voice-controlled platform of choice for travelers at Marriott International. The company is testing the two tech giants at its Aloft hotel in Boston’s Seaport district to determine which is best to let guests turn on lights, close drapes, control room temperature and change television channels via voice command. In December, Wynn Resorts became the first hotel company to install Alexa-powered Echo devices, starting with suites at its flagship Wynn Las Vegas property.
