Hot Openings: TV exec opens Naïa Resort and Spa in Belize

A Belizean television executive is the lead partner behind a new luxury resort along the Placencia Peninsula.

Following a 35-year career in Belizean journalism, Stewart Krohn – who already runs a 224-acre resort community, CocoPlum – has now opened Naïa Resort and Spa.

Situated along nearly a mile of beach and extending through forests and lagoons, the resort is set within a private 200-acre reserve in southern Belize, with nearby opportunities for hiking, river tubing and zip lining.

The new resort features 35 individual beach houses, each overlooking the Caribbean Sea. With studio, one, two, and three-bedroom options, the beach houses pay homage to Placencia, with décor highlighting local artists. Each comes with deep soaking tubs, a private outdoor shower surrounded by foliage, air conditioning, and a wet bar with fridge and coffee maker. Larger Beach Houses offer full kitchens and seafront pool decks.

The resort is home to three restaurants, all designed to highlight the area’s cuisine. The Beach Bar & Grill and Reflections both serve lighter items, while Naïa’s upscale waterfront restaurant, 1981 – named after the year Belize gained independence – focuses on seafood and seasonal items.

The 7,000 square-foot Naïa Spa is spread out over a series of forested islands and features six treatment rooms with private decks that extend over lily-covered lagoons.

In addition to Naïa Spa, the resort offers a fitness center and yoga and movement studio. The yoga studio offers sunrise and sunset yoga, silk ropes for aerial yoga, mat Pilates and guided meditation.
