Hot Openings: El Retablo celebrates Peru’s colorful heritage

El Retablo, a two-story, 17-room bed & breakfast that celebrates the cultural heritage of Cusco, Peru, opened last month. Mountain Lodges of Peru converted the historic building, located three blocks from the city’s Plaza de Armas.

The hotel blends contemporary touches with customs of Peruvian artisans, taking inspiration from retables, a form of Andean folk art with three-dimensional figurines in vibrantly colored portable boxes.

Each of the 10 Superior and seven Superior Deluxe rooms has distinct design and amenities include handwoven tapestries and pillows. There is an additional garden patio on the second floor.
