Briefs: Workforce study | La Quinta lawsuit

Immigrant workforce study: Limited visas for immigrants in the U.S. are creating challenges for the hospitality industry, according to a new study by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs that looks at the crackdown on unauthorized immigrants and proposes policy changes to address the shortfall.

Best Western in Phu Quoc: Best Western Hotels & Resorts signed a license agreement with Vietnam’s CEO Group for the new Best Western Premier Sonasea Phu Quoc. The 565-room resort is scheduled to open in early 2019.

La Quinta lawsuit tossed: A federal judge in New York dismissed a proposed class action lawsuit alleges securities fraud against La Quinta Holdings, saying that the complaint, failed to plausibly allege misstatements or omissions. The suit was sought by investors led by the Police and Fire Retirement System of the City of Detroit.

Cambria in South Carolina: Choice Hotels International broke ground on the Cambria Hotel Mount Pleasant near downtown Charleston, South Carolina. The developers are SpringBridge Development and Landmark Enterprises, and the 112-room property is set to open in 2018.

 


 

Staybridge in Poland: IHG signed the Staybridge Suites Warsaw Ursynów, the first of the brand in Poland and the brand’s eighth property in Europe. The 190-room hotel will open in late 2019 under a franchise agreement with WIK Capital.

 


 

G Hotel in examinership: Galway’s G Hotel and a next-door cinema were appointed a receiver. The properties are owned by developer Gerry Barrett, who says the KPMG receiver team arrived in the middle of a wedding celebration.

Centric in Turkey: A Hyatt Hotels affiliate signed a franchise agreement with Özkent Girisim Gayrimenkul Yatirim ve Ticaret A.S. for a Hyatt Centric hotel in Bodrum, Turkey. The  Hyatt Centric Yalikavak Bodrum will be managed by Access Tourism & Hotel Investment Consultancy Ltd, and is expected to open in mid-2019. It’s the fifth Hyatt brand in that country.
